Canopy Rose Joins The Tallahassee Chamber 850-539-7750

It's official! After weeks of playing phone tag, the brand new Canopy Rose Culinary Arts Studio and Catering Company has officially joined the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce.

I've always believed in supporting the work of the chamber and thoroughly enjoyed my past associations with them when I owned Canopy Rose Catering, so I am very jazzed to be in association with them once again!

Here is a brief description to define what the Canopy Rose Culinary Arts Studio and Catering Company is all about:

Let me begin by saying that I am a food writer and culinary artist.

Menu, recipe and special event design are among my greatest passions. For many years I catered many of North Florida and South Georgia's finest parties. Then after many years of too many 18 hour days I took a sabbatical of sorts to pursue some other creative interests.

During this time, I had the wonderful opportunity to begin writing a regular food and entertaining column in the newspaper. This column, Entertaining with Kathi, can be read every other week in the Northeast Chronicle, a community publication of the Tallahassee Democrat.

Ok, back to today and to what this new business is all about:

1. Catering (Yes! Kathi Dameron is back in the catering business! But this time I have NO desire to be the biggest or busiest caterer in town! I'm only interested in concentrating on a few great catering/ special event projects at a time, so that I have the time and energy to teach some classes, coordinate some international food trips, engage in synergistic culinary collaborations with my professional colleagues and ultimately birth a family of cookbooks and other creative writings.)

2. Special Event Design (When you are looking to create the wow in special events!)

3. Cooking Classes (Being a former educator, teaching is another one of my passions. From time to time I will be spilling my secrets for cooking with and without recipes!)

4. Culinary Collaborations ( Synergy, synergy, synergy!!!)

5. Food Writing (Creative food flavored writings for a wide range of projects.)

6. Food Styling (Food styling for commercial media projects)

7. Food Tourism (The first trip is currently in the planning process right now. We will be going to Tuscany and Umbria for seven days in early October. If you would like to know more, pease contact Kathi at 850-539-7750. We will be jaunting several times a year to many different domestic and international locations for foodie adventures.)

8. Food Public Relations (I am a food publicist and look forward to working with other food businesses, caterers, restaurants and cafes in spreading the word about their businesses.)

9. Evenings of Dialogue (Guest speakers, classes, workshops and seminars with or without a Canopy Rose catered dinner or snack.)

To contact Canopy Rose call 850-539-7750.

Hi, I have read your blog with interest. As a Culinary Tourist, that is someone who loves to travel to places to experience what is unique and memorable to a place from a culinary perspective, I have been following links for culinary tourism for sometime. It really seems as if this is a niche that has been missed by so many people, destinations, tour operators and attractions. It has been exciting to see the buzz slowy heighten about this subject. I wonder if you are aware of the International Culinary Tourism Association you have in the US?
I have been watching these with interest too and their latest project FoodTrekker? it seems to be able to provide all to anyone who has any interest in eating/drinking visiting culinary events or even cookery schools and shops! I think it launches later in the srping, but it may be something you could keep an eye out for! cheers and happy travels from the UK.

Kathi Wins Writing Award

Canopy Rose owner, Kathi Dameron has won the 2nd Place Award in the Newspaper Article Category at the 2008 Southern Christian Writer's Conference in Tuscaloosa, Alabama for her article, Simple Act of Sharing Food Can Truly Bring People Together. This article appeared in the Northeast Chronicle - Tallahassee Democrat during the spring of 2008 in the Entertaining with Kathi column.

Grand Prize Winner In Cooking Contest

The year was 1987 when Kathi Dameron, a passionate gourmet cook who spent her days teaching 32 second graders, and her weekends hosting fun parties for her circle of friends at her waterfront home on Florida's North Hutchinson Island, won two prizes in the first cooking contest she ever entered. One of these prizes was the coveted Grand Prize. At that moment Kathi knew that one day in the not too distant future her special dream to launch her very own catering company would be realized. Seven years later that day arrived with the birth of Canopy Rose in Florida's Capital City in 1994.
